Gold Fields: Bursary / Scholarship Programme 2018

Only applicants that fulfil the following criteria will be considered for Educational Grants:

  • Historically Disadvantaged Individuals from low-income households in the communities surrounding the South Deep Mine and/or the Labour Sending Areas;
  • students in their first three years of tertiary study (unless the trustees deem a particular case exceptional and decide in their discretion to award an Educational Grant to a post-graduate student);
  • only students applying to universities or TVETs who do not have existing bursaries, scholarships or other forms of funding;
  • applicants in any field which has application (technical or non-technical) in the mining sector in South Africa;
  • first time applicants must have achieved an average pass mark of 60% for the most recent year of study (excluding life orientation);
  • repeat applicants (those who have previously received an Education Grant from the Trust) must have passed the most recent year of study. In the event that such a student has achieved an average pass mark but has failed a particular subject, the Trust shall not pay for the repeat of that particular subject, and the student shall be responsible for the costs of the repeat
  • No dependents of Gold Fields employees or the trustees of the Trust may apply

After completion of training, successful candidates may be appointed at regional offices where shift work will necessitate having a valid driver’s license. ONE YEAR BSC BRIDGING COURSE (INTRODUCTION TO METEOROLOGY) FOLLOWE D BY HONOURS IN METEOROLOGY AND A POST GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN WEATHER FORECASTING. (REF.WS – bridge – 10 / 10 / 201 7 ), for 2018 is offering Bursaries for study

The South African Weather Service invites graduates who are in possession of a three year BSc degree with suitable major subjects such as Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and Physics. Oceanography or Meteorological related subjects, to apply for a bursary to undergo a one year course in basic meteorology. The minimum requirements are Mathematics on level 2 and Physics on level 1.

The course will include a range of meteorological courses. The students will study at the University of Pretoria . This course will start in February 2018. On successful completion of the course selected students will have an op portunity to study the BSc meteorology Honours course and the post graduate certificate in Weather Forecasting as stipulated by the South Africa.

Internship

FORECASTING INTERNSHIP (REF.WS 12 /10 /2017 ),

The South African Weather Service invites graduates who are in possession of an honours degree in Meteorology or Atmospheric sciences with at least mathematics on second year university level and physical sciences on first year university level to apply for a one year training internship in forecasting at the head office of the South African Weather Service in Pretoria. This course will star t in February 201 8 . The forecasting offices where forecasters possibly can be appointed are: Pretoria, OR Tambo International Airport , Bloemfontein, Durban, Port Elizabeth, and Cape Town.
