Lesedi Learnership Programme 2014


The Lesedi programme was designed to address the shortage of scarce skills and to give the youth of Ekurhuleni an opportunity to train in these skills.

The learnership covers tuition and transport.

Application forms are available from the department of education – local district office or the Trust office at Emperors Palace.

Learnerships for hospitality and electrical now available.

Please note applicants must comply with the following criteria:-

1. Residents of Ekurhuleni
2. Family household income of less than R3000-00 per month.
3. Age limit:- 18 – 22 years
4. Recipients to be FLUENT in English – this is to ensure they are able to understand lecturers and contractors.
5. Sponsorship ONLY available for the courses as attached.
6. Youth are NOT paid while studying – only a small transport allowance provided.
7. For trades, electrical, “D” symbol for Maths and Science is a minimum requirement.

The candidate must have passed Proper Maths, NOT Maths Literacy. For Hospitality a minimum “D” symbol in English

8. In order to assist the interview panel, numeracy and literacy tests will be conducted prior to interviews.

  • Grade 12 with Mathematics Literacy or Grade 11 with Mathematics as a passed subject is required for the Plumbing Learnership; Air-conditioning, Refrigeration and Ventilation Learnership; Electrical Wiring Learnership; Air-conditioning and Refrigeration Learnership.
  • Grade 10 is required for the Road Works Learnership
  • Grade 10 is required for the Carpentry or Bricklaying Learnerships

The Zurich Learnership Programme is targeted at young South Africans who meet the following criteria:

  • Under the age of 24 (i.e. turning 24 in 2015)
  • Previously disadvantaged
  • South African citizen
  • Has a Grade 12 qualification or equivalent
  • Is able to communicate (speak, read, write) in English, and being able to communicate in any of the other official languages will be regarded as an added advantage.
  • Has passed English and Mathematics in Grade 12 (Achieved 50% and above)
  • Has not obtained any further qualifications since Grade 12 and is not presently studying towards a qualification
  • Does not have the financial means to obtain a qualification
  • Successful candidates will be offered a 12 month fixed contract for the duration of the Learnership

 

Your role

As a Zurich Learner, your main responsibilities will involve:

  • Successfully completing the various learning modules which make up the Short Term Insurance Qualification as well as other learning programmes that you will complete as part of the Learnership
  • Deliver against the various objectives as agreed to in your performance contract. You will be assigned a mentor within the business who will identify activities to be completed along with specific performance criteria.
  • Actively engage with your assigned Mentor with a view to comprehensively understanding the various structures within Zurich Insurance and the Short Term Insurance Industry
  • Succesfully complete all INSETA stipulated requirements (such as the Learner log-book) in order to attain the Learnership Certification.
